The goings on in and around Bridgend

The best preserved small ironworks in Britain?

One of Bridgend's most historic sites has been re-opened to the public after eight years of closure.  Bedford Ironworks, in Cefn Cribwr, dates back to the 18th century and is both a Scheduled Ancient Monument and a Grade II Listed Building.  Considered to be one of the best preserved small ironworks in Britain, the interpretive boards throughout the site illustrate the harsh conditions endured by workers in the early days of the industrial revolution.
Set in the centre of Bedford Park, which itself is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, the ironworks is surrounded by a network of footpaths which allow visitors to enjoy the varied countryside that the park provides.
