St John's House, Bridgend

St Johns Hospice R 500

Often describe as 'The Hospice' St John's House is situated in the Conservation Area of Newcastle Hill, Bridgend and is a protected Grade ll* listed building. 

It is the oldest habitable dwelling in the town, Earliest date to be associated to the building c.1500 recent descriptions by the Royal Commission as:

'The crenellated beams at The Hospice are the only known domestic examples in Glamorgan'

'At The Hospice the architectural detail is not only of high quality but increasingly lavish timber detail signals the hierarchy of rooms.' 

St John's House Trust has been formed with the intention of purchasing the property, preventing it being turned into flats and making it accessible to the general public. 

As part of the Trusts aim to make the house available to the public the house will be open on the weekend of 28th/29th June.

Meibion y Ddraig/Sons of the Dragon will be at the house demonstrating their archery skills and equipment.

In addition there will be an opportunity to try medieval games and to view the house either by guided tour or simply by having a walk around. 

The property will be open from 10am - 4pm each day Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June, 2014

The Senior Open 2014

The Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex will become the first Major Championship to be held in Wales when it is hosted by Royal Porthcawl Golf Club, South Wales, from July 24th - 27th, 2014.

Royal Porthcawl Golf Club was founded in 1891 and has since developed a reputation as one of Britain's best links courses. It hosted the Coral Welsh Classic three times between 1980 - 1982 and the Wales Senior Open in 2009 and 2010 as well as the 1995 Walker Cup.
