Sker Beach, Porthcawl

Sker Beach, Porthcawl, originally uploaded by Tourism Bridgend.

This weekend there’s another chance for beach lovers to do their bit and care for the coastline. Beach cleaning not only helps to improve the coastal habitat for plants and animals but also ensures that beaches are clean and ready for visitors. The next ‘Beach Blitz’ events will run this Friday and Saturday 17 and 18 June at Sker Beach.

My view by Wayne Morgan

Name: Wayne Morgan MBE
Where are you from: Broadlands, Bridgend
What do you do: Retired Army Major - County Borough Councillor/Community Councillor
Favourite local place and why: Sker Point, it is still a wild and unspoilt beautiful location with the sea, sand dunes, and wild life there to be enjoyed by all who take the time and trouble to walk the various short routes to this location. Further afield it is Pen Y Fan & Corn Du in Brecon
Where do you like to eat locally: Broadlands Indian Restaurant "The Cinnamon"
If you like, tell us 1 thing about yourself / or tell us something interesting: As simple custodians of this planet, I believe that it is our duty to look after the environment in order that we might pass it on to our children and grand-children unpolluted, safe and healthy. A constant source of wonderment, beauty and an abundant resource. We must never take the environment for granted or it will be lost to those who put self and greed above all else.

'Beach Watch… Beach Clean' at Sker Beach

Become a ‘beach-comber’ for the day on Saturday 5th June 2010 between 10am and 2pm at the picturesque Sker Beach in South Wales. You will join the wardens from Kenfig National Nature Reserve and the Marine Conservation Society to take part in this beachwatch project, as part of Wales Biodiversity Week. As volunteers you will help survey and clean the beach, and provide the Marine Conservation Society with vital information needed to tackle marine pollution at source. If you haven't done this before, you'll really enjoy getting away from it all, meeting new like minded people and doing something positive for the environment at the same time!
Meet at Kenfig Nature Reserve near Bridgend on Saturday 5th June at 10am, and as this is an outdoor event, please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. For further information, please contact Kenfig National Nature Reserve on 01656 743386.
